From a cute little write up of the event Phelpsie did at Penn State yesterday:

some local kids came out to do a relay with the guys. It was so cute to see Mike huddle up with his team, looking all hardcore like he was planning some serious strategy. The kids were so excited they were shaking. I melted.

Hee! I can just see him telling them, "We're going to kick the other teams' butts!"

Then Mike came out and everyone went NUTS. I was wicked jealous of the people who sprung for the deck seats - a lot of them got hugs as he passed.

When he stripped down to go in, all the girls went crazy whistling and screaming, and he grinned and blushed a little.

He showed us some drills to improve technique on breast stroke and freestyle, then swam all-out for 100 M, one lap for each stroke. He just looks so at ease in the water, like it's where he belongs - I can't really explain it, but it was beautiful just to watch him.

Then the other guys came back out and they raced each other in the freestyle, which Ian won, and then they took questions from the crowd. A lot of the were swimming-related, but there were some like "What's your favorite color?" (Mike's were blue and yellow) and "What did you have for breakfast?" He actually had 2 breakfasts, one before they left Baltimore and one at the Waffle House at Penn, and it was so much food I can't even remember.

Finally, and this was my favorite part by far, some local kids came out to do a relay with the guys. It was so cute to see Mike huddle up with his team, looking all hardcore like he was planning some serious strategy. The kids were so excited they were shaking. I melted.

Lenny's team was way ahead coming into the end of the third leg, and he was looking kinda smug about it but he waited for Ian's and Mike's teams to finish before they started the anchor leg because Mike was looking at him and shaking his finger as if to say "Oh HELL no! Don't even think about it!" We all cracked up, and then Lenny won anyway.

That was it for the swim demonstration, but Michael was doing a free Q&A and autograph session at 6 in the Hub, and even though we went straight there, the line was huge and they stopped letting people in literally 3 people in front of me!!!

Anyway, I was able to watch from the door and even though I couldn't hear that well, I caught the inevitable gf question ("No, I am single." ::girls go nuts), heard some kids ask for a cardboard cutout of him, which he gave them, heard him say his fave quote is "Actions speak louder than words," and that his weight fluctuates 10 pounds any given week because he eats and exercises so much.

See, I envy you because you can find all these stories and pics of Phelps. It's harder to find stuff on Hoogie.

Awww...I will make sure as I move through swimfandom to always keep an eye out for Hoogie stuff. Phelps is just hot right now, but once he heads off to school, I'll have to become super detective at finding stuff, I think.

I'm sure you've already seen this, but it'll remind you that searching for the stuff is worth it! ;D

Such a beautiful boy. I almost typed "suck a beautiful boy". *eg*

I almost typed "suck a beautiful boy". *eg*

Of course, that'll work too! :D

Shaking! Now, that's cute.

and that his weight fluctuates 10 pounds any given week because he eats and exercises so much.

Man, that's about 4.5 kilos ... that's a hell of a lot to go up or down in a week. Then again, that's probably just due to what's inside his apparently cavernous stomach at any given time. Two breakfasts? Oh, lord.

Yeah--I guess according to this, he had a hard time keeping weight on when his wisdom teeth came out last year:

At 8:20, the other four change for a three-mile jog to Robert E. Lee Park and back. Phelps suffers from a knee condition that is exacerbated by road work, so he climbs a flight of stairs to an exercise room and spends 20 minutes on a stationary bike.

Two weeks earlier, Phelps had his wisdom teeth removed, a precaution for 2004. The stitches came out only a day before; a trip to San Diego for a swim convention made meals even more problematic.

"I got over 200 pounds in Barcelona," said Phelps, stepping on a scale. "Now I'm down to 188. Pudding, soup, Jell-O, ice cream, that's all I could handle for three, four days. Now I'm ready to eat."

He lost weight eating pudding and ice cream! LOL!

I thought I read he lost over 10 pounds in a week because of his wisdom teeth--when I got mine out, the only weight I lost was the weight of the teeth! LOL!
