This is why you should care about US Swimming
chris mens journal
Because sometimes, things like this happen at meets:

That's US swimmer Ricky Berens at the World Championships going on now in Rome. He split his suit stretching on the blocks. I'm kinda surprised they let him go, since usually splitting your suit is a DQ, but...

Anyhoo, the downside of the new super suits. But great eye candy for the girls in the stands!!

the World Championships is so close to my house,I have to go there lol

You should! I went to the 2005 World Championships in Montreal (not near my house, but a fun trip regardless) and the swimming was amazing! It really is an experience to see a world record being set and being able to say you were there and witnessed it. At that meet I saw Ian Crocker set the world record(which Michael Phelps just now broke)in the 100 fly, and it was the most exciting thing I've ever seen!

yeah I'd liked to go but I have to work and I don't have time
some girls of the italian team are not very nice but it's always a pleasure watching a world record as you said and the italian team did it today so it's good:)

Hahahaha, that's awesome. Those suits look painful too.

Unfortunately for the semi talented swimmers (and fortunately for fans of eye candy) FINA (the sport's governing body) has banned a lot of the new high tech suits starting next year and limited how much of the body the approved suits can cover. I think they're trying to nip it in the bud for the junior swimmers, where cost is a huge factor (the LAZR by Speedo--what Phelps wears--costs something like $400-$500 per suit, and ideally it's only probably good a handful of times in competition before it's ruined--although you can still wear it as a practice suit--and you need to buy a new one.)

But at any rate, they are uncomfortable. It compresses everything down, so it's like wearing a head to toe pair of Spanxs.

I should start watching swimming more often..

Ahahaha! I haven't watched any swimming in awhile, so I wouldn't've known any better. I've heard about the new suits. How did he do in his race? Gah, I can't imagine having your ass hanging out for all to see!
